PitStop Productions are looking for a highly-motivated Technical Sound Designer to join their Sound Design department in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. The successful candidate will join the 100+ passionate creatives based in South Yorkshire and London, across the Voice, Sound Design, Music and Visual departments who are working on a range of video game titles from indie to AAA, so they can deliver amazing audio content to our worldwide clients across the games industry.

  • Recently completed titles include: Baldur’s Gate 3, Horizon: Call of the Mountain, Returnal: Ascension, Little Nightmares II: Enhanced Edition, and the latest Minecraft Dungeons expansion packs.
  • Implement a wide range of high quality sound effects, assisting on conceptualisation and execution of technical systems, and help determine technical requirements for well-known titles.
  • Act as a final line of audio QA within the creative team, being aware of each project’s delivery requirements, to ensure project audio standards are always maintained.
  • Adapt to using a whole host of different game engines and audio middleware (including proprietary engines) to construct and maintain efficient and effective audio systems.
  • Problem solve and devise creative solutions to complex challenges that can arise within interactive audio, including bug fixing and unique platform optimizations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in collaboration with external development teams, while maintaining excellent standards of communication.
  • Learn and apply different clients’ codebases and audio management systems to maintain and streamline audio workflows on multiple projects.
  • Assist the wider department and audio leads, from recording in-game captures for asset creation to playtesting and profiling playthroughs in order to contribute information to reported audio issues.


  • Strong understanding of game audio concepts, and technical sound design best practises in a range of scenarios
  • A great understanding of any of the following game engines and audio middleware: Unreal Engine/Unity/Wwise/FMOD
  • A good knowledge and eagerness to advance understanding of a given scripting solution (including UE Blueprints)
  • Proven ability through showreels, personal or commercial projects, and demos to implement a diverse range of sound effects to a high standard, while maintaining optimisation principles
  • Confidence in adapting to a range of different developer workflows, being able to effectively build on audio systems in a way that is consistent with the development team’s own approaches
  • Confident communication and interpersonal skills with a positive team attitude
  • High proficiency with industry standard DAWs (REAPER preferred), audio editing tools, and audio plugins
  • Demonstrate a proven reliability with time management and an understanding of the importance of meeting self-set and externally set targets
  • Understanding or experience in using version control software, for example Perforce or Github
  • Good proficiency in using Microsoft Excel / Google Docs
  • Be open to criticism and be willing to learn from our knowledgeable and supportive audio team



  • BA/BSc degree in audio production/sound design or equivalent experience
  • Relevant technical audio experience in the games industry, although other work in entertainment, engineering and art are welcome
  • Experience designing, implementing and maintaining bespoke interactive sound or music systems, preferably on multiple platforms
  • Demonstrable experience in audio scripting including, but not limited to, UE Blueprints and coding in C# or C++
  • Basic experience creating scripts for Reaper using Python or Lua
  • Good understanding of spatial audio concepts in gaming, including VR and surround sound, with an ability to implement these concepts where applicable
  • Experience using advanced profiling in middleware, game engines and IDEs to identify and troubleshoot issues in audio implementation
  • Practical knowledge of bug tracking workflows such as JIRA or Redmine
  • Awareness of 3rd party tools and add-ons used in AAA games such as REV, Wwise Motion and Wwise Reflect, as well as new audio approaches such as Metasounds

This position will be held at our South Yorkshire office in Dodworth, Barnsley.

You must be willing to commute or relocate in order to attend the office, otherwise your application will not be considered at this time.
